Carnaval de Barulho : The Carnival of Noise
Date: Saturday 7th June 2025
About the day
It’s Barulho’s 25th birthday, and we’ll be celebrating loudly and in style on Brighton’s iconic seafront on Saturday 7th June 2025!
Introducing Carnaval de Barulho (The Carnival of Noise)! A vibrant showcase on Brighton’s iconic seafront, where past and present members of Barulho will reunite, and be joined by other local bands that have made our city’s samba scene so special.
In a nutshell:
- The day will kick off at 13:00 and start with the current Barulho band doing a small parade from the east-end of Hove Lawns towards the west pier
- As Barulho approaches the area on the seafront in front of the west pier – the area called the Golden Spiral – our ex-members and Rosaria’s dancers will join us here and kick-start the flashmob
- The flashmob plan is for each of the other bands to ‘appear’ one by one from various ‘secret’ locations nearby and play a stint as they approach (we’re purposely not telling you where they’ll be hiding so you get a nice surprise on the day…unless you happen to spot them ofc!)
- Once all bands are assembled at the spiral we’ll then switch into playing the unison tune all together (including ex-members) directed by Pat – yep, all bands playing as one, it’s gonna be loud!
- After the unison tune is done, the plan is for each band to have a 15-20 min slot to showcase their own stuff, the running order for this is below – the tune where the ex-members join the current band is roughly in the middle of the running order
- All in all, this should probably take us up to around 16:30
- Then it’s party time! Come along to The Brunswick Pub for a good old knees up, we have it booked from 5ish til midnight. This is open to Barulho, the other bands involved, friends, family etc.
